So I'm read this old book (6th century old) called the Art of war by Sun Tzu. He goes over rules or instructions of what to do during war. What really struck me about this book was what he quoted: "Warfare is the greatest affair of state, the basis of life and death, the way to survival or extinction." He is basically saying that war or fighting is necessary in our way of life. Well I'm sure you guys don't care about that though, what you really want to know is what does a war book from the 6th century going to help you. Life is really similar to war, for example, lose the trust of the people there is a rebellion, lose trust of your friends and they are gone. Some businessmen and entrepreneurs also use this book in order to get ahead in the business.
Well for starters he teaches us how to analyze the enemy or which side will win (HINT: useful for taking bets). There are 5 aspects that you would need to know for each side: Tao, Heaven, Earth, General, and law. Tao is the trust of the people, how willingly are they to follow you to your grave. Heaven is who has weather advantage and Earth is the terrain. General is the leader's abilities. And Law which is the discipline, organization, or teamwork that they have. Using this you can determine if a battle is worth fighting or who will win. To do so ask these questions: Who has the trust of the people? Which general is more capable? Who has the terrain and weather advantage? Whose laws are better? Whose forces are stronger?. With these you can determine who will win (unless some unforeseen godly smite comes down on you).
Deception is the main part of war. Say if you are strong pretend to be weakened to lure them in for an ambush or pretending that your victory is near even though it isn't to cause them to be wary of you. Another is forcing the enemy to take action. Such as provoking them further when they are angry to cause them to act blindly, if they are rested make them tired, or attacking them where they would least expect it. During war you must take into consideration of your soldiers because long battles weaken them and blunt their weapons. And during this time when you are weak there will be rivals who will come and try to take your throne.
This book is really enjoyable and fun to read since you can connect it to your daily or future life. This book was originally in Chinese so there are some parts of the translation that are a bit awkward but still readable. There was so much that i have written down on my post its but i was unable to get them all down. Hopefully next time I will be able to . Well then see you next week (maybe ill write better then).
