In the past weeks I'm sure there were time where you have gone and asked yourself, "How am I suppose to know that?". Well I finally reached the section where it explains it all. The answer to your question is spies. Sun Tzu states, "Thus enlightened rulers ans sagacious generals who are able to get intelligent spies will invariably attain great achievement" (233). Using spies you can be ahead of your opponent and be prepared for whatever they send your way.
He shows his point with the Yin (Shang) and a spy named I Chih in Hsia (ancient dynasty before the mains ones came along such as the Shang, Zhou, Qin, Han, ...). Now on the topic of spies there are 5 types: local, internal, double agents, expendable, and living. Local spies are the ones in local areas like the name says. They are like prison snitches who can only give information on their local area the prison. Internal are the ones that you send out from your company or government. Double agents are spies that you hire from your enemy. In order to get them tempt them with money or what they desire; your main goal is to keep them and have full control of them. They are the ones that you pay the most for. Expendable spies are the ones that you don't care if they die are not. They should only be used for spreading false information to your enemy. And when they have been caught you need to eliminate everyone that they have told including the spy his or herself. lastly, living spies are spies that return home. Just like James Bond and how after his mission he returns home. These are types of spies that are given.
When you are using spies you need to get them to find out everything. Especially if what you want to pull out is an assassination. You would want them to have a fully detailed map of every closet, every room, and every staircase just in case something goes wrong. You would also want a list of everyone serving that person so you can choose whether to use he/ she. Using spies you can find out if the opposing general is weak or strong, what are the weak spots in their setup or formation, what they plan on doing, and many more. That is why the spy is the most important person other than the general and king. They are the ones that will give you an advantage. Use them well and you will be victorious.
This will be the last post for Oreo book blogs. These past few weeks of reading The Art of War have been interesting. The book was not life changing for me, but it was a nice change of pace considering most of the books I read are fiction. I'm really glad I picked up this book though and it was a good book overall. Though this project was a pain I would like to thank Mrs. Housepian, because with out her I would not have read this book. Thank you for reading my blog and I hope that have found this useful or at least learned something new. Bye!
